Trade Safely on OnlyBikes
OnlyBikes connects buyers and sellers but does not handle payments, inspect products or participate in transactions. Buyers and sellers are responsible for checking the item, the other party and the payment arrangements.
For Buyers
• Inspect the bicycle or product before paying whenever possible.
• Meet in a safe, public place or at a reputable bicycle shop.
• Confirm the seller’s identity and ownership of the item.
• Check the bicycle’s serial number and ask questions about its history.
• Be cautious when a price appears unusually low.
• Never pay through an unfamiliar link sent by a seller.
• For shipped items, use a reputable delivery service and obtain tracking information.
For Sellers
• Never release an item based only on a proof-of-payment image or email.
• Confirm directly in your own banking application that cleared funds are available.
• Do not rely on an SMS claiming that payment has been made.
• Be cautious of buyers who send more than the agreed price and request a refund.
• Do not allow a courier or third party to collect until payment has cleared.
• Record the buyer’s details and keep your communication history.
Common Warning Signs
Be cautious if someone:
• Pressures you to act immediately.
• Refuses to speak or meet in person.
• Offers more than the advertised price.
• Claims a courier will handle the payment.
• Sends a link asking you to enter banking or login details.
• Requests your PIN, password or one-time password.
• Uses inconsistent names, telephone numbers or banking details.
• Asks you to pay an “activation”, “release” or “insurance” fee.
OnlyBikes Will Never Hold Your Money
OnlyBikes does not collect, process, hold or release payment between buyers and sellers.
We will never ask you to pay a fee to release money from a buyer. If someone claims to be holding payment on behalf of OnlyBikes, it is a scam.
Protect Your Personal Information
Never share your:
• Banking password or PIN.
• Card information.
• One-time password or verification code.
• Identity documents unless genuinely necessary and you understand who will receive them.
• Exact home address publicly in a listing.
Report Suspicious Activity
Use the Report Listing option if you notice a suspicious, misleading, stolen or prohibited item.
If you believe you have been defrauded, contact your bank immediately and report the matter to the South African Police Service. Keep copies of messages, banking information, telephone numbers, listing details and proof of payment.
OnlyBikes may investigate reports, remove listings or suspend accounts, but cannot recover payments or compensate users for losses arising from private transactions.
Trust Your Instincts
If something feels wrong, stop the transaction. A genuine buyer or seller should understand reasonable safety checks.
